Scarlet Butterflies is a story of a girl overcome with the pain of heartbreak and unrequited love.
It begins with the girl sitting, crying with her broken heart in little pieces next to her... the pain is too great to bare so she contemplates suicide. However she believes all the suicide attempts will fail.
Suicide #1. Slitting her wrists
She fears that blood doesn't fill her veins, instead they are filled with scarlet butterflies.
Suicide #2. Overdose
If she takes a bottle of pills, maybe they wont be pills at all... what if the pills turn out to be sweets.
Suicide #3. Drowning
If she ties weights to her feet and throws herself into a lake, maybe mermaids will untie the weights releasing her.
Suicide #4. Hanging
So if you hang yourself from a tree will the squirrels stand by and watch, probably not, they're likely to gnaw through the rope.
I'll be adding and changing some of the suicides as the illustrations evolve. Also the ending is still a little uncertain but I'm thinking, she gives up on the idea of killing herself , opens a little hinged door in her chest and puts all the broken pieces of her heart inside. Then ties on a painted mask and drinks her tea. In the background noise the faint beating of her heart can be heard.
